Editor’s note: This is the last in a series of stories about what Eastman makes.

KINGSPORT ‑ One product made by Eastman makes paint tougher and food safer.

Eastman Tetrashield protective resin systems create protective coatings that enhance appearance, improve weatherability, and bolster scratch resistance for cars.

In fact, in lab tests, coatings formulations with Tetrashield show significant durability and aesthetic enhancements when compared to coatings using other resins, according to Eastman.

Tetrashield is also used as a coating inside food and beverage cans to enhance food safety.

You might not ever notice it, but it is also used on large structures like bridges and water towers.

In simpler terms, it makes paint look better and last longer,“ said Charlie Giaudrone vice president and general manager, Eastman Coatings & Inks. “It’s one of our newer products in our portfolio. It makes paint and coatings more durable and easy to apply, and a good appearance and longer lasting appearance. It’s the top coat on your car, and protects from bird droppings or scratches.”

Tetrashield is made in Kingsport.

The product, Giaudrone added, comes from Eastman’s polyster chemistry background practiced by the company for decades.

“It’s a perfect example of where Eastman is unique and addresses the needs customers and consumers have,” Giaudrone noted. “It’s a great example of how we’re making a real material difference in the world.”

Eastman is a Kingsport-based specialty products company. As a globally inclusive and diverse company, Eastman employs approximately 14,500 people around the world and serves customers in more than 100 countries. The company had 2018 revenues of approximately $10 billion.
